The Covidence Team is pleased to invite researchers, students, and professionals interested in evidence synthesis to attend an upcoming free webinar on October 2nd with Tamara Lotfi, a Senior Evaluation Specialist at the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie), a co-convenor for the Campbell and Cochrane Equity Thematic Group, and the Managing Editor for the International Development Coordinating Group (IDCG).
Dr. Lofti will provide a clear and practical overview of the most common types of literature reviews—systematic, scoping, rapid, umbrella, and narrative—and explain when each approach is most appropriate.

Cochrane Rehabilitation Thematic Group at the 33rd World Congress of the IALP in Malta

Our Thematic Group was proud to contribute to the 33rd World Congress of the IALP, held in Malta. As part of its commitment to advancing evidence-based practice in rehabilitation, Matteo Johan Del Furia co-presented the session “Cochrane Rehabilitation: Evidence Synthesis in Speech and Language Pathology” alongside Gianmatteo Farabolini.

This participation also reflects the active Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Cochrane Rehabilitation and IALP aimed at promoting the integration of high-quality evidence into clinical practice in speech and language pathology and rehabilitation.

We extend our sincere thanks to the IALP Board for the invitation and to all participants who engaged with our work.

Sharing evidence-based research in such a prestigious setting reinforced the importance of collaboration, inclusivity, and scientific rigor in advancing rehabilitation worldwide.

Spotlight on the 18th EFRR Congress in Budapest

The 18th Congress of the European Forum for Research in Rehabilitation (EFRR) took place in Budapest, bringing together leading experts, researchers, and clinicians from across Europe to advance the field of rehabilitation. Since its founding in 1983, EFRR has served as the premier multidisciplinary platform for rehabilitation research, with a strong focus on the biopsychosocial aspects of care and innovation.

A highlight of the event was Lecture Session III, where Stefano Negrini explored “The Struggle for Evidence in Rehabilitation. A Look into the Future”, addressing the challenges and opportunities in building a robust evidence base for rehabilitation practices.

The congress reaffirmed EFRR’s commitment to improving rehabilitation services and standards for people with disabilities through collaborative research, education, and innovation.

Cochrane Rehabilitation at ISPRM 2025: shaping the future of Evidence in Rehabilitation

Cochrane Rehabilitation, Functioning, and Disability is proud to announce its active participation in the upcoming 19th International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) World Congress in the imperial city of Marrakesh, from November 3 to 7, 2025. One of the highlights of the congress is the thematic session titled: New Frontiers for Research in Rehabilitation: How to Collect and Disseminate Evidence. This session, organized by the Cochrane Rehabilitation Functioning and Disability Thematic Group, will delve into innovative strategies for strengthening evidence-based practice in rehabilitation—an urgent priority underscored by the WHA Resolution on Strengthening Rehabilitation in Health Systems.

Carlotte Kiekens will open the session with a focus on Cochrane Rehabilitation’s role in advancing evidence-based practice globally. Maria Gabriella Ceravolo will present the Guide-Rehab framework, a new tool for improving the reporting of rehabilitation research. Chiara Arienti will offer insights into the critical appraisal of rehabilitation evidence. Francesca Gimigliano will introduce the eBook strategy for prioritizing evidence synthesis in rehabilitation and Stefano Negrini will discuss methodological advancements to enhance the quality of primary research in the field.
